Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: news, rumored price, release date, and more

For the past five years since foldable smartphones came out, they’ve been at opposite ends of the spectrum. One side wants to maximize performance and productivity in their foldable tablet, while the other wants their phone to be as simple as possible. Samsung has five years of experience in this field, serving both of these groups with its Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series.

The launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 isn’t far away, but rumors are still swirling. Here’s what we know so far about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6.

Samsung will release the Galaxy Z Flip at the same time as its bigger sibling, the Galaxy Z Fold. Until now, Samsung’s foldable devices have always been launched in the summer: the Galaxy Z Flip 3 was released on August 27, 2021, the Z Flip 4 on August 26, 2022, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 on August 11, 2023. However, this year’s Flip will be coming out a little earlier than usual.

On June 25, Samsung confirmed that its next Unpacked event will take place in Paris, France on July 10, starting at 9am Eastern Time / 6am Pacific Time.

The Galaxy Unpacked event is expected to feature the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Ring. There were also rumors of an “Ultra” version of the Z Fold 6, but details were sparse. Samsung is also expected to launch its next-generation watches, the Galaxy Watch 7 series and a new Galaxy Watch Ultra.

The Galaxy Z Fold series has always been very expensive, but the Z Flip devices have made them a bit more affordable for most people. Currently, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is priced starting at $1,000 for the 256GB version and $1,120 for the 512GB version. However, prices may increase this year.

A leak from GSMArena has revealed the retail price of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 in Europe, with prices starting at 1,340 euros for the 256GB model and 1,467 euros for the 512GB version. This equates to roughly $1,435 and $1,572, respectively, a significant increase. However, this appears to only apply to Europe, and it is unclear whether the price will increase in the US.

The overall look of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will likely be similar to the current Galaxy Z Flip 5, but with some improvements in durability.

According to a report from German website GalaxyClub, a patent application filed by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) for Samsung Display shows that the company is attempting to trademark “Ironflex”.

Not much is known about the Ironflex other than that it has a “foldable OLED display” and is a “foldable smartphone.” It’s supposedly a durable folding screen, and we know that Samsung is working on improving dust resistance for foldable devices.

There are also renders leaked by SmartPrix in collaboration with OnLeaks, showing what the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will look like in a full 360-degree video and 5K renders.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 will be similar to the current one, including its 6.7-inch main screen. The power button is located on the right side and doubles as a fingerprint sensor along with the volume buttons. The USB-C port and speaker are also located at the bottom, which is pretty standard.

The leaked renders show the back of the device with what appears to be the 3.4-inch cover display currently featured on the Galaxy Z Flip 5. However, leaker Ross Young claims that the Z Flip 6 may feature a larger 3.9-inch cover display. It also looks like the Z Flip 6 cover display will retain the folder-like shape that Samsung introduced with the Flip 5 last year. The Z Flip 6 also seems to be a bit thicker than before. SmartPrix claims that the depth of the phone has increased from 6.9mm to 7.4mm, perhaps suggesting that there is room for a larger battery this year.

As for colors, reputable leaker Ross Young posted a full list of possible colors for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 on X (formerly Twitter). These colors include light blue, mint, silver shadow, yellow, craft black, peach and white. He previously said the colors will include light blue, light green, silver and yellow, suggesting that the light green will be mint and the silver will be silver shadow.

9to5Google received photos of dummy units of both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 from Sonny Dickson in June. The dummy unit of the Z Flip 6 looks identical to the one already featured on the Z Flip 5. Unlike the sharp and flat edges of the Z Fold 6, the Z Flip 6 will retain the previous rounded corners. The camera setup also seems to be the same.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is very likely to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 over the Galaxy chip already in the S24 lineup. Based on usage in the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, we should see a big jump in performance and power efficiency this year.

However, Samsung may take a different approach to RAM on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 this year. There have been a few reports of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 appearing in Geekbench results, one with 8GB of RAM and another with 12GB of RAM. This was first spotted by SamMobile and shows that Samsung was testing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with 12GB of RAM, rather than the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 8GB of RAM. This surfaced because the Z Flip 6 (SM-F741U) appeared in Geekbench’s database with both of these configurations.
